Feelin’ Hot, Hot Hot!

Millions of Americans wake up every morning with a common goal, coffee. Coffee is hands down the world’s most popular stimulant. It is estimated that over 1.4 billion cups of coffee are consumed world wide every day. In America, 4 out of 5 adults drink coffee, accounting for over 400 million cups per day. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an alternative and perhaps less expensive way to get going in the morning?

If we ignore the obvious alternatives such as the plethora of tea varieties, energy drinks, caffeine pills, and the like – what other choices do we have to get our kick start in the morning? Still thinking… Still thinking… It’s actually quite simple, hot peppers.

The idea was first introduced to me by a friend in culinary school. At the back of the school building, the students maintained a hot pepper patch. He said that when students arrived early, they often got into heated debates over who could eat the hottest peppers. The morale of the story is that the students later began to use peppers as a means to wake up in the morning. So I tried it and WoOow, does it work!

The chemical that makes hot peppers hot is called capsiacin, feel free to Google it if you want to learn more, it’s a very interesting compound. But for now, try a pepper in the morning and see if that doesn’t put a little extra pep in your step.

Haha, but then the focus I’d get from the stimulant would be dwelling on the distracting pain in my mouth. Would be nice to get rid of the caffeine addiction though.
